How Over-The-Counter Diet Pills Work

By Frank Mills We have all seen the diet pill ads that claim they can melt away the pounds and give you more energy. Over the counter (OTC) diet pills promise a quick fix but can they really deliver? OTC diet pills are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration which classifies them as dietary supplements. This is why you can purchase them without a prescription at any local drugstore, health food store, or supermarket. Xenedrine, Dexatrim and Zantrex-3 are examples of over-the-counter diet pills. They were originally manufactured with a powerful combination of ephedra and caffeine to help you lose weight. The combination of ingredients increase energy expenditure or thermo genesis and reduce your appetite. It was thought that the caffeine increases the metabolism by increasing the breakdown of fatty acids. The ephedrine acts on the hypothalamus section of the brain to reduce your appetitte. In 2003 however, the FDA banned the sale of ephedra-containing drugs due to evidence of increased risk of heart attack. Ephedra was replaced with a mixture of vitamins that include thiamin, riboflavin, vitamin B-6 and folic acid and an ephedra-like substance called synephrine found in citrus fruits. This new combination increased energy while boosting the metabolism. To get the maximum results from any over the counter diet pills you should start a regular excise program and modify your diet to eat more healthy foods. Diet pills are only meant to be taken for a short period of time-usually 6 months or less. After six months you body will start build up a tolerance to these pills and your weight loss slow down or stop entirely. After that, if you are not eating healthy foods and following an exercise plan, the weight will start come back. Diet pills aren’t a quick and easy weight loss solution, however they can help you meet your weight loss goals quicker than dieting and exercise alone. Hair Loss Shampoo

By Jennifer Bailey As a part of the cycle of hair resting, falling, and growing back again, shedding some hair everyday is considered quite normal. However, some people may experience more than normal hair loss, which can be due to a number of reasons. Prolonged illness, major surgery, certain medicines (such as anticoagulants, medicines for gout, medicines used for chemotherapy, excessive vitamin A supplements, birth control pills and antidepressants), fungal infections and stress may cause temporary hair loss, which can be rectified through proper treatment, or when one stops consuming the medicines that are causing hair loss. However, hormonal problems like the ones associated with the thyroid gland or imbalance of hormones may make hair loss severe and permanent, if not rectified. Several women experience hair loss after pregnancy. Hair loss also occurs as a symptom of certain diseases such as diabetes or anemia; in such cases, the hair loss can be corrected or stopped by treating these diseases. A clinic in America claims that excessive sebum is the single biggest cause of 99 per cent of all hair loss in men and women. Sebum tends to clog the pores of the scalp and hinders follicle growth. In time, the hair root is asphyxiated and it is impossible for new hair to grow. Hair loss shampoos help in rectifying the problem of hair loss by providing proper nourishment and vital proteins and nutrients that food supplements may not provide. Check the label on the shampoo bottle to see what it contains. Proteins, keratin and amino acids all bond with the hair shaft to fill-in the cracks caused by poor treatment of the hair. They strengthen and protect the hair. Vitamin B5 or Panthenol has the ability to penetrate hair and is highly recommended for strength and healthy growth. The type of shampoo that you use is purely one of personal choice. Cosmetic companies that produce shampoos spend millions of dollars on research and you can be sure that just about any shampoo will provide effective cleansing for your hair. However, you should try and identify the shampoo that suits your specific hair type. Each individuals hair is unique and what might work for others might not work for you. Shampoo provides detailed information on Shampoo, Hair Loss Shampoo, Free Shampoo Samples, Dandruff Shampoo and more. Shampoo is affiliated with Hand Made Soaps. Interracial Dating — Prejudice is Alive and Well!

By Alex Kituli Any observer of the dating scene will know that there is a wide array of people seeking inter-racial or inter-cultural relationships. The area is of quite some controversy, with some viewing mixed relationships as an attack on their culture or race, and others regarding it as the ultimate melting pot ideal. However, my view is that often it is more complicated than that and racism can live well in the minds of people who are seeking mixed relationships, and there are particular stereotypes that people have in mind. One case in particular is that of white men who are seeking Asian women. This is a discussion of my findings on personal ads put out by white men in Asian press and Asian dating sites. Clearly, Asian women are in quite some demand in the personal columns and the internet. In particular, personal ads, whether on the internet or in the press, often cost money which means people are prepared to put significant resources into finding a partner. The targeting of minority press indicates that there is a great deal of selection going on, and these advertisers are researching where would be the best place to reach a large number of Asian women. This would further bear witness that those men who do not specify what sort of woman they were looking for know exactly what sort of woman they were looking for simply by advertising where they advertise. However, the research that these men undertake seems to be somewhat scanty and is based on a visual appreciation rather than anything deeper. Many minority press or dating sites are written by and for a specific community, but white male advertisers also occasionally include specifications such as Oriental, Chinese, or Asian/Black - quite different groups in terms of distinct cultures. To discard these types of advertising as aberrations is to understand these patterns by ignoring them. There is clearly a conscious move by some white men to seek out specifically Asian women, and as some of the adverts would indicate, non-white other women in a more general sense. I wonder why. This is even more striking, when one compares this seeking out to the number of marriages between the Asian and white communities. The actuality of intermarriage between whites and Asians is low, and lower for Asian women than for Asian men. Thus, statistically speaking, the chances are low. White male advertisers have a number of significant differences from Asian advertisers. They are older, are more likely to be homosexual, prefer above all Asian women (rather than a specific caste/religious/cultural background), and they place little importance on religion. Asian advertisers are far more likely to have a religious specification, and conversely, are less likely to state they were willing to take any race/religion. White men in adverts specifically want Asian women, and not for their religious suitability or cultural compatibility. Few white men specify the woman they are looking for in terms of religion. Overall, the most common tag applied to the desired partner was Asian which indicates that white men were seeking a specific race, as opposed to religion, nation or language. The fact that the other advertisers used such descriptions such as Asian/Oriental or Asian/Black would also indicate a seeking out of merely other non-white races. This would indicate that there is a large amount of presupposition on the part of white men on the sort of qualities that Asian (and other) women may have, and what a white person could offer them. Asian (and other) women are subject to a specific sexual racialisation. This was indicated in the text of some advertisements. Most adverts from white men are fairly run-of-the-mill personal advertisements, apart from the insistence on Asian. For example, it is common to read seeking attractive Asian lady seeks slim young pretty Asian female, seeks an attractive Asian girl and so on. One advertiser declared that he adores Indian/Pakistani females, which would seem to conflate two countries. If one were to very broadly generalise, India may be more defined by Hinduism, and Pakistan by Islam, two very distinct religious and cultural backgrounds, indicating that the belief patterns of his prospective partners are wholly unimportant. If advertisers specify an age of the respondent it was usually younger, sometimes many years so. Advertisers also tend to split into two groups, those who emphasise their financial status and others who emphasise their romantic nature. For example: European mature white professional businessman / film executive lively personality, VGSOH, interesting lifestyle, kind caring, totally honest and genuine English boy, 33, longing for the love of an Indian girl. If you enjoy simple things, summer walks, winter cuddles, then youre the one for Im looking for. Another common feature was to emphasise their respect or interest in Asian or eastern cultures, including what music and food they liked. Respects eastern cultures and religions, into travelling, music (e + w) , Genuine [sic] respectful of Asian identity Interests include Asian culture, Likes cinema, hot food, music, have a wide range of interests including Asian culture and so on are common. One advertiser the 33 year-old English boy above identifies religion and culture as a difficulty, saying Dont let religion and culture be barriers against two ordinary people who just want to enjoy themselves, which indicates that enjoying oneself is more important than either religion or culture. One white man indicates the taboo nature of the relationship he was seeking and the disapproval it might get from the Asian community by writing confidentiality assured in his advert, which conversely might also imply that he himself would prefer to keep this relationship under wraps too. Another advertiser indicated that Asian women would not get respect unless it was from a white man: If you are looking for a special someone who will treat you with the respect you deserve, please reply, telling me a little about yourself he wrote, clearly meaning that Asian culture would not accord respect to its women. Another not so blatant advert I am looking for someone who wants mutual respect seemed to touch on a similar theme. Some adverts allude to the special domestic nature of Asian women by indicating that Asian women would be more caring. One said Im an honest caring and gentle person ( an incurable romantic) who works to [sic] hard and needs an Asian girl to ease the stress! and another 27-year-old advertiser stipulated his respondent should be a nice, gentle intelligent woman 18 - 25. There is some transparent racialised and stereotypical thinking in the manner in which white men advertise for Asian (or other) women. Clearly the biggest single factor to support this case is that white men are clearly advertising in high proportions in Asian media. This preference is supported by some notions of what Asian women in general are like, and what each can offer in the marriage/romance trade-off. Taking all advertisements into consideration which is not necessarily indicative of any one advertiser the composite picture is that: The white man seeks out broadly other (black, coloured, oriental, Indian/Pakistani) women. He is not seeking a specific religious, cultural, linguistic or national background. The defining feature is race or otherness. The white man can offer either financial support or romance, either of which he assumes is wanted by the Asian woman. In addition, the white man will be respectful of the Asian womans heritage. The white man will treat Asian women with more respect than Asian men. Asian women are implicitly not satisfied with the deal they get from Asian men or culture. Asian women are more caring than their white counterparts and have stress-relieving capabilities, clearly an allusion to a domestic role. Furthermore, this may have sexual particular connotations as stress-relief does come in many physical forms. These assumed qualities are further evidence that colonial and racist representations of the other are alive and well in the minds of some white men, and that the whole area of inter-racial relationships is not free of prejudice. Indeed, Roger Bastide wrote of interracial sex: In those bodies finding each other, fusing, there are two races at each others throats. Pharma Skin Care - Skin Care Tips

By Amit Sar 1. Sun Protection More than anything else, sun protection will help to prevent the aging of your skin, The sun is largely responsible for wrinkling, blotchy pig entation (Lentigines, also called “liver spots”), thinning of the skin, broken blood vessels (telangectasias), dryness, texture changes, uneven color and some sun related skin diseases that make the skin look older. Daily use of sunscreen products with at least an SPF of 15 along with protective clothing such as full-brimmed hats, long sleeved blouses and shirts, and slacks instead of shorts will greatly reduce the aging of the skin and the possibility of skin cancer. Sunglasses will also protect the eyelids from aging and will help reduce crows feet by reducing the squinting which comes from sun exposure without eye protection. 2. Avoid Smoking Melasma has been considered to arise from pregnancy, oral contraceptives, endocrine dysfunction, genetic factors, medications, nutritional deficiency, hepatic dysfunction, and other factors. The majority of cases appear related to pregnancy or oral contraceptives. The infrequency of melasma in postmenopausal women on estrogen replacement suggests that estrogen alone is not the cause. In more recent experience, combination treatment using estrogen plus progestational agents is being used in postmenopausal women, and melasma is being observed in some of these older women who did not have melasma during their pregnancies. Sun exposure would appear to be a stimulating factor in predisposed individuals. Although a few cases within families have been describe, melasma should not be considered a heritable disorder. 3. Fitness With age, extra weight can accumulate in areas under the chin, the neck or cheeks, giving the skin an older look. Other areas of skin such as the abdomen, thighs, buttocks and calves look older if they are carrying excess fat. A combination of balanced nutrition and exercise can greatly improve the appearance of the skin. Drinking enough water is also important. Improved muscle tone and improved circulation also help to keep that younger looking skin we would all like to maintain. Some excess fat can be removed by liposuction; however, it is much better not to accumulate that excess weight in the first place. 4. Smile! Your face tends to conform to the position or expression that you carry most of the time. If you often frown or scowl you skin is more likely to develop lines or wrinkles between the eyes, down turning lines at the corners of the mouth, or other lines or furrows that conform to the frowning facial expression. a smiling, pleasant, relaxed expression is goof for your face and will help keep you looking younger. 5. Sleeping Positions Sleeping on your face can cause sleep wrinkles. Sleeping in the same position most of the night for years can permanently crease your skin. With a small pillow under the lumbar (lower) spine, it is possible to sleep on your back comfortably without causing wrinkles on your face. 6. Skin Care Consistent skin care is important in maintaining younger looking skin. In recent years, several products appear to cause an improvement in aged skin. Although Retin-A has received a lot of publicity and does seem to improve the appearance of skin over a period of time, it can cause skin irritation, sun sensitivity, peeling, and requires a medical prescription. Alpha hydroxy acids also appear to achieve remarkable results in giving the skin a younger look and lacks most of the irritating side effects seen with prescription products. 7. Moles As young children, most people have few, if any moles. Most moles appear as we grow older. We may look older than we are if we have numerous or unsightly moles, especially on the face. Moles can be easily removed by a skilled dermatologist or plastic surgeon. This can greatly improve the appearance of the skin and give it a younger, smoother look. 8. Blood Vessels As we age, extra blood vessels appear on the skin. Three types of blood vessels are most common. 1. Telangectasias are blood vessel lines and blotches that occur on the face, neck, and upper chest. These are caused from sun damage, flushing or blushing, some skin diseases such as adult acne (acne rosacea) and excessive use of cortisone-type skin creams. Other activities which greatly increase the blood flow to the face such as vigorous exercise, hot spicy foods and drinks, alcohol, hottubs, etc. may aggravate this problem. It may be possible to prevent telangectasias due to flushing by using a cold damp towel on the face during vigorous exercise, during use of hot tubs or at other times when there is marked facial flushing. Sun protection with sunscreen products and a hat can also help to prevent this problem. Telangectasias are best removed with Krypton, KTP, copper vapor, continuous wave dye, or flash lamp pulsed dye lasers. 2. Cherry angiomas are small bright red, mole-like spots on the skin. These spots are easily removed with laser, electrocautery, or surgery. Getting rid of these lesions will remove one of the tell-tale signs of aging. 3. Spider and varicose veins appear on the legs with age. These are most often caused by heredity, hormones, and pregnancies. Sclerotherapy (injections) and new simple surgical techniques can easily remove most of these vessels giving the legs a younger look. 9. Brown Blotches Brown blotches occur on the skin with age. These include freckles, liver spots (lentigines), and uneven pigmentation (melasma) which usually occurs in women because of a combination of sun exposure and estrogen type hormones either naturally or in birth control pills. The Phaze 13 Pigment Gel, or NuCelle Mandelic Serum 10-15%, and prescription medications can both help. Laser treatment, dermabrasion (skin sanding), chemical peels, and liquid nitrogen freezing can also improve these pigmented blotches. These procedures are performed by dermatologists and plastic surgeons. 10. Other Skin Blemishes Show Your Age Waxy scaling yellow, brown bumps (seborrheic keratoses) and fleshy tags (skin tags) occur with age and make the skin look older. Enlarged oil glands and small cysts commonly appear on the face with age. These small skin lesions are easily removed by a dermatologist using simple office surgical procedures, liquid nitrogen freezing or lasers. A clear complexion without all of these little distractions, gives a much younger look to the skin. Pharmaskincare products are the unique result of modern biotechnology and dermatological research combined with centuries of scientific observation. These remarkable skin care formulations are not made by companies that spend most of their time selling lipsticks and perfumes, nor are they based on trendy or “secret” ingredients. The biology of skin is too complex for an individual ingredient to solve its problems, and treating the surface is not enough. That’s why any constituent of a Pharmaskincare product has not only a specific function, it must also interact with the other constituents in the formula. The whole must be greater than the sum of its parts. Pharmaskincare products have been created to treat every aspect of skin care under all kinds of conditions, ranging from natural aging processes to UV damage to environmental assaults to stress and metabolic deficiencies. In addition, the active principles have been tested and retested on all skin types at all stages of skin development from youth to maturity, from acne to menopause, from excessive oiliness to age spots. Root Canal Disinfectants - Antibiotics Prove Inadequate to Eradicate Bacteria

By George Meinig The bacteria dentists use to determine Whether treatment of a root canal infection has been successful, namely the absence of discomfort and pain; x-ray evidence that abscessed areas, granulomas and cysts have completely filled in with new bone; and trust that the medicaments used in producing these results completely eradicated bacteria, all proved inadequate when such teeth were subjected to further testing by Dr. Price and his group. Testing for the presence of bacteria in root canal, after the use of disinfectants which appeared to have controlled the infections, proved that the organisms had not been eradicated. Dr. Price, in making cultures after the use of over 100 different medicaments, including different strengths of each, found only eight which had negative responses after 24 hours, and only two after 48 hours of incubation; longer periods were found to be ineffective as medicaments lost their disinfecting power. The two most efficient medicaments proved to be objectionable - silver nitrate because it turned teeth black and formalin because it was very irritating and painful to patients and destructive to surrounding tissues. Though culturing to determine whether bacteria had been killed was formerly taught and practiced, I know of no dentists using such a testing procedure today. Dr. Price in another series of tests took extracted infected teeth and treated them (much easier to do aseptically outside of the mouth) and found when these teeth were sectioned their dentin and cementum were still infected. In still another investigation, Dr. Price made biopsy sections at and below the gum line and found bacteria present not only in the root of the teeth and their protective cementum but also in the first millimeter or two of adjacent bone. The importance of this factor in causing cavitations in bone after extractions will be discussed in a later chapter. Dr. Price noted future developments might bring forth medicaments which are more successful. You will all be thinking that antibiotics are certainly the answer. However, antibiotics have not proven able to effectively penetrate the dentin tubules, cementum and adjacent bone sufficiently to eradicate these bacteria. Testing of new medicaments, and current efforts such as new laser treatment methods, are of course necessary and were anticipated by Dr. Price. All of these root canal side-effect problems should not deter the profession from continuing to explore new methods of how to save teeth. While we cannot learn how to save teeth by extracting them, Dr. Price fortunately has shown us ways to test procedures to prove whether infection has been eradicated in teeth we think we have saved. Why Anger is Essential to Healthy Relationships

By Kevin Burk Many of us have some very definite ideas about anger. We see anger as destructive and hurtful. We consider it to be an inappropriate response. We equate anger with violence. In short, we feel that anger is simply wrong, and that when we experience anger, theres something wrong with us. Anger isnt nice. Anger isnt polite. And anger certainly isnt our friend. Anger can be all of these things. But anger is also useful, necessary and even healing. We need our anger. We simply need to learn how to express our anger in appropriate, conscious, supportive ways. On its own, anger is neither good nor bad. It can be used to hurt, or it can be used to heal. It may not be a particularly pleasant emotion, but its an important one. And angeror rather the skillful use and understanding of angeris essential to creating healthy relationships. Guy Williams, a friend of mine who also happens to be a minister of Religious Science offers a tremendously insightful approach for understanding anger. Guy says that anger arises from a communication not delivered or an expectation not met. Anger is actually a tertiary response: our initial responses are grief and fear. First, we grieve the death of the expectation that was not met. Next, we fear that things will never change. Finally, we experience anger. So few of us recognize that anger can be a positive, healing response. When we allow ourselves to experience anger, it focuses our minds, and strengthens our resolve. We discover reserves of strength and power. Our anger is what gives us the courage and the power to confront our fear that things will never change, by creating change. So many of us equate anger with aggression. We believe that when we experience anger, someone will be hurt. In order to create a more spiritual and skillful relationship with anger, its helpful to recognize that we can defend ourselves without attacking. Consider that we each carry a sword. When someone crosses a boundary, we experience anger (because our expectation that our boundaries will be respected was not met). At this point, we have a choice. We can choose to use our sword to attack, lashing out at the person who crossed the boundary. This will inevitably violate our partners boundaries, and make our partner feel unsafe and angry. They will, in turn, pull out their sword and begin to attack us in earnest. The result is a classic lose-lose scenario, where both participants are wounded and feel less safe than they did at the start. We do have another choice, however. We can choose to use our sword to defend our boundary by simply removing it from its sheath and displaying it. Brandishing our metaphorical weapon is usually more than sufficient to hold the attention of the person who crossed the boundary. Once we have our partners attention, we can calmly make them aware that they have crossed a boundary, and ask that they take a step back and respect that boundary in the future. Because we are merely defending ourselves and not attacking our partner, we are far less likely to make our partner feel unsafe, which in turn means our partner is far more likely to apologize for having unintentionally crossed a boundary. Its a win-win situation because we feel safe once again in the expectation that our boundaries will, indeed, be respected, and our partner feels safe because they are now more aware of the boundaries in the relationship, and no longer need to fear that they will accidentally violate them. If we choose not to take things personally, and always assume that the boundary violation was unintentional, we not only avoid stepping into the role of victim, but we also avoid the need to forgive our partner, because we never blamed them in the first place. Avoiding blame, by the way, is another way that we defend ourselves without attacking. When we blame someone for their actions, we are, in fact, attacking them. We cut them off from the flow of our love. This makes them feel less safe, and frequently is interpreted as an attack. More importantly, when we blame someone, we reinforce the lie that we are separate from All That Is, and cut ourselves off from the universal flow. So how is anger essential to healthy relationships? Anger is our call to awareness. Remember that relationships are all about meeting our fundamental needs. In every relationship, we need to feel safe and we need to feel validated. As long as those needs are met, our relationships are truly amazing. When we feel angry, we know something is not right. We become acutely aware that some of our needs are not being met. Anger is most often associated with safety violations. If we feel angry because our validation needs are not being met, its usually an indication that we have an attachment to meeting our validation needsa sign that one of the main ways that we feel safe is to feel validated. When we feel angry in our relationships, we usually respond in one of two ways. The first response is to express our anger, most often by lashing out in some way. Weve already seen how this is always a lose-lose proposition. The second response is to repress our anger in order to avoid a full-out confrontation. (Notice how this response also assumes that the only other way to deal with anger is to express it by attacking!) When we repress our anger, we attempt to restore the balance in our safety accounts by isolating ourselves and disengaging from the relationship. Eventually, we will no longer be able to repress our anger, and it will manifest in a confrontation of unexpected and inappropriate intensity. Neither response meets our relationship needs, of course. When we cultivate a more skillful relationship with anger, however, we have a third option. When we feel angry in a relationship, we can become aware that were feeling unsafe, that some expectation has not been met, and that our needs are not being met. We can own this experience, recognizing that its about us, not about our partner. And we can choose to take appropriate action. Instead of attacking or withdrawing, we can choose to engage in the relationship more fully. Before we engage in the relationship, however, we must first recognize that were feeling unsafe, and remedy this. We may be able to shift our awareness and restore the balance in our safety account in an instant. We may need to disengage (briefly) so that we can cool down before we reengage in the relationship. Whatever the method, it is essential that we feel completely safe before we proceed. If we dont feel safe, we wont behave in a reasonable or rational manner. Once we feel safe, we can explore why we felt angry. Remember, anger arises because an expectation was not met, or a communication was not delivered. What was the expectation? What boundary was crossed? What was not communicated? What was not understood? Now that weve identified the reason for the anger response, we can consider it objectively. The most important question is whether our expectations were reasonable. Remember that we are responsible for meeting our minimum daily requirements of safety and validation on our own. When our unreasonable expectations arent met, we do experience anger, but that anger is a call to make us aware that its time to adjust our expectations, and this does not involve our partner in any way. If we discover that our expectations are, in fact, reasonable, and that our partner is responsible, then its time to defend our boundaries and hold our partner accountable. Holding our partner accountable, however, is not the same thing as blaming our partner, yelling at our partner, insulting our partner, tearing our partner a new one, or in any way making our partner wrong. Its important to recognize that much of the time, all that we need is an acknowledgement that our partner has not met an expectation, and an apology. All we need in order to feel safe again is to be able to believe that our expectations will actually be met in the future. This may seem hard to accepthow could a simple apology ever be sufficient? Its something each of us has to experience for ourselves. The desire for punishment or revenge exists because we have disengaged from our relationships, and we believe that our partners are responsible for meeting our safety needs. When we take responsibility for restoring our sense of safety and choose to engage in our relationships, all we need is an apologyan acknowledgement of the boundary violationand then forgiveness comes naturally. Test Your Headlines for Maximum Profits

By George Dodge Professional copywriters do not simply write or select one headline and then hope for the best. They create a number of different headlines; often times as many as a hundred before selecting the headline they think will perform the best. But they don’t stop there! Professional copywriters know that their choice will often not be the choice of the public and therefore they test their headlines in the market place. Believe it or not, even professional copywriters find that half or more of their ads, sales letters, or campaigns fail to become winners. But, by testing, they are able to cut their losses early and maximize their successes. The method of testing most commonly used is known as split testing. With headlines, split testing involves the exposing of two different alternating headlines to prospects. This can be done both online and offline, but online is much easier and the testing process is quicker. Here is the way headline split testing works online. Visitor A comes to your website and sees headline #1 while visitor B comes to your website and sees headline # 2. When visitor C comes to your website, headline # 1 is shown again and the alternating process continues for the length of the test. After a number of actions have been recorded for each headline, such as clicking through to the order page, the results are compared to determine which headline resulted in the largest number of desired responses (the click through to the order page, in this example). The larger the number of total responses recorded, the greater the accuracy of the test to determine the headline winner. Once a winner is chosen, that headline becomes the new control. A control is the current best performing item being tested, in this case, a headline. Now that a control has been established, a new headline is tested against the control to see if the response can be improved. This process continues on until a given headline has been the control for a large number of tests. Initially the two headlines that are being tested can be quite different. What you are looking for in the early test is what general kind of headline seems to work for the target market. Once a general kind of headline appears to be a winner over competing types of headlines, then you begin to tweak and split variations of the winning headline itself. Let’s take a look at an example. This headline example comes from Jimmy D. Brown, a very successful Internet marketer. The following two headlines were split tested to determine a winner. Headline # 1: “The Power of Viral eBooks” Headline # 2: “How to Create Automated Profit Generators” The Result? Headline # 2 out pulled headline # 1 by multiple times. Now to simplify this process, let’s assume for the sake of this example that Headline # 2 proved to be the winner, not only of this test, but a number of follow on test against a number of other headlines. So, you have determined the type of headline that seems to work well for your particular target market. Now, it is time to tweak the headline by split testing variations of this particular headline. When you split test variations of a headline, you want to only change one thing at a time. Perhaps you will change only one word in the headline, or the color of the headline, or the using of quote marks around the headline, etc. But you only test one item at a time. Each item you test is called a variable; it is the thing that varies between the headlines in the test. Everything in the headline can make a difference in the headline response rate. Things that make a difference in response are called response modifiers. In addition to the items mentioned above, other response modifiers in a headline might include the font used, the size of the font, the capitalization of the first letters of each word, etc. Everything in your headline can and should be tested. For an example of how a very minor change can make a difference in your headline response, take a look at these two headlines: Headline # 1: “Put Music In Your Life” Headline # 2: “Puts Music In Your Life” The only difference between the headlines is the addition of the letter “s” to the first word. Again the second headline greatly out pulled the first headline. Some copywriters assume that this is because the first headline implies some work on the part of the reader, while the second headline implies that something or someone else does the work. But the reason is not important, only the results matter. Each tweak of your headline that results in a new control improves the desired response rate of your headline leading to a maximization of profits, if your headline involves the selling of a product or service. You can never know for sure why one headline out pulls another, but while you can guess, the reason is not important. What is important is the results, no matter what the reason. Jim and Audri Lanford of www.netrageous.com, now www.scambusters.org, once made a change of color to a sub headline on one of their online sales pages and orders almost dropped to zero. When they changed the headline color back, their normal order rate returned. They guessed that this was because the color change may have caused the headline to look more like hype, but as noted above, the reason is not important. What are important are the results. Are you testing your headlines? If not, you should be. Every little positive change continues to increase your profits and it all adds up in the end. While some changes may only increase your desired response by a fraction of one percent, some people have seen changes of as much as 1,500% with a single headline change while the rest of their copy remained the same. How would you like to see either a single or cumulative improvement over time of 1,500% in your desired response rate? I thought so! Then go forth and test, test, and test some more! Trade Show Exhibits

By Steve Valentino In a trade show, a visitor only slows down or stops at the booths that are eye-catching. A trade show exhibitor has only a few seconds to attract the visitors attention. To have a successful exhibit you have to be able to not only attract the viewers attention but hold his interest. Many exhibitors make the mistake of emphasizing their name and logo more than the message they want to send out. An effective exhibit design presents your message precisely, and as uniquely as possible. The aim here should be to hold the visitors interest and to make him want more information. There are several aspects to be considered when getting ready for a trade show exhibit. When you prepare your presentation, focus on one or two ideas that should strike your target audience and remain with them even after they leave. The message you want to send out should be simple, but should at the same time grab the attention of the target audience. The attempt should focus on enhancing your image or brand. The size of a display does not matter. One must remember to pay attention to detail and avoid unnecessary clutter. This, combined with the effective use of graphics, can help to make even a small exhibit appear attractive. A good exhibit also pays attention to the staff manning the stall. Ideally, the staff should be experienced and be able to satisfy the needs and queries of your company’s target customer group. When a visitor at your booth asks questions, it obviously means he wants more information. The staff should be well-equipped with knowledge to provide the answers that the visitors are seeking. Basically, an exhibit is aimed at gaining exposure, finding new prospects and building credibility. The trade show exhibit provides a small insight into what your company is all about and what it has to offer.
